Ready, Set, Sew! Level A Beginning I Week 5 of 5

Ready ~ Set ~ Sew!

A Sewing Instruction Series

This series of sewing instruction classes will provide the necessary skills you need to learn to sew.  You can progress from learning the basics in Level A to a more advanced skill set in Level H.  You can join any class level with out any prerequisites.  Each class has a wearable, “level appropriate” project for you to sew and will include samples of sewing skills to keep as reference.

This series of classes will also build fitting skills and teach commercial pattern adjustments that complement each other as you progress through the different levels.  Let’s face it, the perfect fit makes the difference between a professional and a “homemade” look.

Sewing machines are available for use or you are welcome to bring your own machine.  Patterns are provided and included in the cost of the class.  We will provide a materials list when you register so you will have time to purchase your yardage (with the exception of Level A).

LEVEL A    Beginning I   5 Weeks      Cost $290

Basics

Learn your way around the sewing machine; threading, tension, winding bobbins, guiding fabrics for a straight seam, curves and pivots.  We will cover what supplies you will need to get started such as pins, shears, tracing wheel, measuring tape, etc.

The project for this class is a lovely Kimono. We will use “New Look” 6476 which has two different body and sleeve lengths.   During this process you will learn many sewing skills that you can apply to future projects.  These include:

·         Taking accurate measurements and finding your correct size in commercial patterns

·         Fabrics, grainline, and interfacing

·         Reading the pattern, the guide sheet and understanding common sewing terms

·         Construction of the garment; how do these pieces fit together?

·         Pressing for a professional result

You will receive your pattern in class so we can discuss size and yardage requirements.

The class size for the course is four students. Spots fill quickly, so reserve yours fast. To reserve your spot, call us at (435) 896-7286. Payment of half the total class cost ($145)* is required at registration.

*Deposit is non-refundable except for in extenuating circumstances. If you have questions regarding payment of your deposit, please call us at (435) 896-7286.

Ready, Set, Sew! LEVEL C Intermediate I Week 6 of 6

LEVEL C    Intermediate I        6 Weeks          Cost $ 320

Level C will focus on creating a more complicated Bodice or Top using skills from Level A and B.  Clothing with more fit and style use many of these details.   This will include:

·         Darts

·         Simple sleeves

·         Simple collar

·         Front closures

·         Pockets

·         Button Tabs

·         Seam Finishes

·         Decorative touches such as lace trim, bias binding and ruffles

We will construct a stylish Shirt or Tunic from a commercial pattern and will build on fitting skills and commercial pattern alterations.

The class only has room for 4 students, so reserve your seat quickly.
